We desire, through our role of prayer and service, to encourage in ourselves and others a deeper relationship with Our Lord Jesus Christ.  A Daughter continually renews her baptismal vows to follow Jesus as her Savior and Lord, to work, to pray and to give for the spread of His Kingdom. The "rule of life" for the order is built on the tenets of prayer, service and evangelism as one deepens her relationship with Christ. 

 

The Order of the Daughters of the King has been active in Queens since the early history of the Church.  Records of the Daughters in Queens can be traced back to a gift to St. Joseph’s in 1926. Today, the members of the St. Joseph’s Women of Faith Chapter are lay leaders and active members of many of our ministries that provide for the needy, visit the ill, and contribute to our community in a myriad of ways.

The Order of the Daughters of the King is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church.  The members of this Order undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service.

 

The Order of the Daughters of the King was founded in 1885 by Margaret J. Franklin at the Church of the Holy Sepulchrein New York City which is now known as the Church of the Resurrection. However, the St. Joseph’s Women of Faith Chapter was instituted January 27, 2008 when fourteen women were accepted as Daughters.

 

The primary mission of the Order is to extend Christ’s Kingdom through Prayer, Service, and Evangelism.

 

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Daughters of the King’s vision is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others, and to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world.

 

The Daughters firmly believe that reaching out to others provides a way to live out the catholic and apostolic nature of the church in their own life. Their responsibility is to be guided by the Holy Spirit as they seek to share God’s love. In Jesus Christ, they have the answer that all people seek. Through Evangelism, they try to reach those who are new in the community and looking for a church home. In addition, they try to minister to those who are in hospitals, shut-ins, and to those in sorrow or personal trouble. They strive to do all they can to help newcomers experience God’s love through the fellowship of the church.

 

Through the Rule of Service, the Daughters seek daily to do the will of God where they are reminded by Jesus’ words, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did it for me.”

 

It is with this Charge in mind that the Daughters undertake the following projects:

• Donate newborn clothing to St. John’s Hospital (on a monthly basis).

• Participate in the Samaritan’s Purse as part of the Franklin Graham’s Global Ministry.

• Adopt a Family

• Contribute to Clean Water Project

• Visit and Pray with the Sick and Homebound

• Donate clothing and personal items to children of Uganda as part of the Bridge for Peace Ministry

 

The St. Joseph’s Women of Faith chapter of the Daughters are long serving members of the church who are active in its ministries and have been involved in its mission as lay leaders for years.
