"Your Heart is a Place for God" - The Rev. Kino Vitet
Fr. Kino Vitet
The Rev. Kino Vitet, Priest-in-Charge at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in Queens Village, New York, preached his first New Year's Eve sermon at St. Joseph's, December 31, 2012.
The Service started with a silent procession followed by a Carol Service by the St. Joseph's Senior Choir. The packed congregation enjoyed the singing and the sermon.
Welcome, Saints of GodWelcome Home!
Our Patron Saint was called to be a husband to Mary and the earthly father of our Lord Jesus Christ. St. Joseph was called to build and sustain a holy home; by the grace of God, he created the home where Jesus lived.
It has almost been a year since I arrived at St. Joseph’s and I am certain that we too are called to create a holy home. We too are called to create the place where Jesus lives; a home that is filled with the sweet aroma of the Holy Spirit.
Those of us who have taken up residence at St. Joseph’s must make it our duty to go out into the world and invite others to the fellowship that we are having with Jesus Christ.
We must make it a point to share the blessings that we have received. Sharing our blessings is one of the ways in which we put the love of Christ into action. It is important that we reach out to our neighbors and into the community to be the channel of God’s ever flowing grace.
It is also our duty to remain constant in prayer so that we are able to accept God’s protection for this holy home. It is only possible for us to remain on guard against the attacks of the devil when our wills are in sync with God’s will; and that only happens through constant prayer. In order for St. Joseph’s to remain a holy home, we have to guard against envy, greed, pride, hatred and disorder.
I am certain that God is eager to continuously bless us so that we could be a blessing to others. Already, the number of students at our school has increased significantly. I am looking forward to your continuous support in creating a holy school. By God’s Grace, it is our goal to educate the children about the things that are good and beautiful so that when they become adults they will be able to discern the things that are pure, good and beautiful.
We are also in the process of renovating a rectory that is over 100 years old. It is such a wonderful thing to see that God is using you the parishioners of St. Joseph’s to sponsor the restoration work that is needed. Our God is a one of order and beauty and He wants to use each and every one of us to keep St. Joseph’s as a holy home.
Let us make ourselves totally available to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
